I'm Monica Dix
Hello, I'm Monica Dix, a mother of five and an art teacher at a classical school in SWFL. I've always been passionate about art and love nothing more than spending time creating new pieces.
Landscape
I'm inspired by the natural beauty around me. Living in SWFL, I see water, palms, and dramatic clouds every day, and love to incorporate these and other elements from nature into my work. Though I focus on realism, abstract principles underpin my work, as I work with bold, bright colors and fluid, organic lines that evoke a sense of movement and energy.
Portraiture
Finally, portraiture is another area of my expertise. I enjoy capturing the essence of a person through their features and expressions, using a combination of realism and stylization to create a unique interpretation of the subject.
I have a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and have been creating art for over 20 years. In addition to my work as a teacher and artist, I also have a background in business and previously owned a coffeehouse. I enjoy hobbies like knitting, literature, and great food when I’m not working on my art or teaching.
Painting Clouds
Lately, I've been obsessed with painting clouds. There's something magical about the way they shift and change, and I love trying to capture their unique beauty on canvas.
Drawing a Portrait a Day
I'm also working on a daily portrait drawing challenge, where I create a new portrait every day. It's a fun way to stay inspired and continue honing my skills.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
